EDU 656 - Classroom Applications of Child Development, Classroom Behavior and Management Examines the relationship between child development theory, classroom management theory and elementary school curricula with a focus on identifying children's strengths and appreciating individual, cultural, ethnic and familial differences in order to promote the optimal development and learning of children with diverse characteristics and varying abilities. Prerequisite: Admission to the M.S.T. program. (3 cr. hr.) Frequency code B = offered at least once per year
Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify child development domains and learning theories relevant to children and how these relate to their learning and development.
- Describe teacher, family and community roles in child development.
- Examine responsive and ethical approaches to classroom management that facilitate effective learning environments.
- Apply information about the social curriculum to plan cooperative, respectful interactions.
