BIO 450 - Neurobiology

Development and functions of the nervous system and how it remodels and regenerates following injury. Examples from several different model organisms as well as human and dissociated neuron culture will be used. Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in BIO 210. Fulfills LASR; PRES. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code B = offered at least once per year

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge and understandings of neuronal function at a molecular, cellular, and neuronal circuit level.
  2. Explain development, response of the nervous system during disease and following injury at the cellular and molecular level.
  3. Critically analyze scientific data from neurobiology literature and draw conclusions from the analysis.
  4. Apply critical thinking skills to formulate novel scientific questions in neurobiology and incorporate the appropriate research methodologies to address them.
  5. Clearly and effectively communicate neurobiological concepts at the undergraduate level as well as in layperson terms through writing and oral presentations.
