CAP 320 - Information Security

Examination of information security concepts and processes, including security threats and methods for protecting an organization's networks, operating systems, operations and applications. Topics include risk management, authentication, access control, auditing, accountability, cryptography, modern security technologies, applicable laws and regulations. Prerequisite: CAP 100 or permission of the CAP coordinator. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of cybersecurity concepts and identify potential security threats.
  2. Illustrate how cyber-attacks work and analyze avoidance strategies.
  3. Describe how cryptography, authentication, authorization, access control, and data integrity improve security, protect individuals or resources, and reduce data breaches.
  4. Analyze industry cybersecurity technologies and describe privacy issues, laws, regulations, and industry standards related to the field.
  5. Produce a risk management plan that establishes priorities, assesses risk factors, determines response strategies, and implements controls.
