FSA 495 - Seminar in Student Teaching

Discussion and analysis of issues related to student teaching in inclusive classrooms. This is a semester-long seminar taken concurrently with student teaching. Prerequisites: Consent of department to verify required grade point average of 2.8; all Inclusive Childhood Education [IEC] program courses leading up to student teaching with no grade lower than a C; no outstanding incomplete grades; two-thirds of all course work completed; and successful completion of CARR, SAVE and DASA workshops. Corequisites: FSA 493 and FSA 494.  (1 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Discuss co-teaching and/or collaborative strategies, to address the needs of all students.
  2. Identify proactive and positive classroom management strategies to prevent and then support students who display challenging behaviors.
  3. Reflect upon strategies for communication and collaboration with professionals and families to advocate/support all students.
  4. Identify and articulate strategies to create classroom communities where all students are involved and supported, formative/summative assessment strategies to improve student learning and instruction, and strategies to actively engage students in learning.
