SPM 452 - Sport Business, Finance and Politics

A focus on business topics as they relate to the fiscal and budgetary control of public and private sport organizations, leagues and facilities. The course includes an examination of case studies capturing the nexus of business, politics and sport. Prerequisite: MGT 254 and SPM 275. Not open to students with credit for ECO 366. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Recall principles of finance in the sport industry.
  2. Explain how political decisions affect how sport is structured and financed.
  3. Develop a business plan by evaluating and interpreting financial data.
  4. Create and demonstrate knowledge of concepts by writing and presenting a business plan centered on a sport entity.
  5. Describe how financial systems affect the sport industry.
