SPM 277 - The Business of Motorsports An overview of the management strategies and business models utilized by the teams, facilities and sanctioning bodies of major professional motor sports. A special emphasis will be placed on the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). There will be significant in-depth and behind-the-scenes analysis of motor sports business from the brand loyalty of its fans to the complexities of team economics to national television contracts. Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Critique the marketing concepts, theories and tools of professional auto-racing.
- Examine the organizational, marketing and technological differences between the different auto-racing entities.
- Investigate the influence of factors such as socio-economic, gender, ethnicity, race and disability in sport participation and management.
- Articulate the principles of ethical behavior in the management of the league and teams.
