POL 471 - Legal Theory

Theoretical origins of legal justice and relation between law and politics with particular emphasis on natural law theory and positivist theory. Prerequisite: POL 270. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code C = offered at least once every two years

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of multiple legal theories.
  2. Apply legal theories to real-world policy and legal debates and outcomes.
  3. Prepare a substantial written document, supported by research, evaluating an existing law or public policy according to at least two distinct theories of law and justice.
