American political, social thought from European antecedents to present. Emphasis on political statesmanship: Jefferson, Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify and manipulate major themes from the canon of American political thought.
  2. Relate contrasting themes in American political thought to the historical contexts from they emerged.
  3. Produce written and oral critiques of theoretical arguments focused on internal consistency and on correspondence with the observable world.
  4. Apply concepts from American political thought to the political issues of the present.
