POL 240 - Introduction to Public Administration and Public Policy

Examines the formulation, administration and evaluation of public policy and programs. Includes survey of policy-making models and the politics of bureaucracy, principles of public finance and budgeting, personnel management and organization theory. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code B = offered at least once per year

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify and explain the theories of major contributors to the academic field of public administration, including Max Weber, F.W. Taylor, Mary Parker Follett and Herbert Simon.
  2. Explain the constitutional responsibilities and rights of U. S. public administrators, as well as, the relationship between public administrators and the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government.
  3. Define the role of public administration in the U.S. government.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to prepare work products such as budgets, communications and job descriptions.
