MAT 354 - Numerical Analysis I

Techniques and applications of numerical analysis: algorithms, root finding, polynomial approximation and interpolation, differentiation and integration. Prerequisites: A grade of C- or better in MAT 122 or MAT 236 and in MCS 186. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code O = offered occasionally

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the algorithms used in root finding, and numerical differentiation and integration.
  2. Code basic algorithms in a practical, modern programming language.
  3. Derive and compute error bounds and convergence rates for select algorithms.
