HIS 111 - Western Civilization since 1500

Major political, social, economic, religious and intellectual developments in Europe and European-settled regions from 1500 to present, with attention to connections to the non-western world and to growing global inequalities. Fulfills: GE 5 and GE 7; LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify major historical figures, institutions and developments in Europe and European-settled regions from 1500 to present.
  2. Analyze relationships over time between various historical factors (for example individuals, social groups, cultural and intellectual trends, economic developments and political structures).
  3. Explain the origins and impact of global inequalities between the western world and non-western peoples and regions.
