GER 101 - Beginning German I

Introduction to the skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing, with exposure to German culture. Emphasis on developing communicative strategies in German. Fulfills: GE 9; LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Comprehend and produce spoken German at a level commensurate with the novice low level or higher as described in the current ACTFL Proficiency Benchmarks and Performance Indicators for language learners in listening and speaking.
  2. Comprehend and produce written German at a level commensurate with the novice low level or higher as described in the current ACTFL Proficiency Benchmarks and Performance Indicators for language learners in reading and writing.
  3. Analyze and interpret German culture in terms of products, practices, and perspectives at a level commensurate with the novice level or higher as described in the current ACTFL Proficiency Benchmarks and Performance Indicators for language learners in intercultural communication.
