FRE 423 - Themes in Literature

Themes as basis for study of several works or authors, e.g., women, love, society, revolution. For students with knowledge of French, although subject may be comparative in nature if indicated by subtitle. May be repeated as subtitle changes. Prerequisite: FRE 311, 315 or 316. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the ability to speak, read, and write at the Advanced (low, mid, and high) levels of French, as defined by the ACTFL scale.
  2. Analyze literary techniques and also situate literary works in their historical, social, and cultural context.
  3. Write successful academic papers by writing multiple drafts, soliciting and using feedback, and using critiques to improve both grammatical expression and analytical depth.
