EXS 479 - Social Critique of Sport Introduction to conducting research on the social world of sport from a historical and qualitative research perspective. Open to juniors and seniors. Prerequisites: EXS 287 and EXS 346; and EXS 420, which may be taken concurrently. (3 cr. hr.) Frequency code B = offered at least once per year
Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Deconstruct the strengths and weaknesses of published works on sport and their social worlds.
- Compose critically and analytically defined work on sport and the social worlds in which they exist.
- Analyze research on sport that examines the traditions, rituals, gender practices, social class influences, ethnic diversity and other social mores related to sport groups.
- Organize a plan for sport-related research in order to complete a field experience requirement in the sport studies major.
