ECO 455 - Asset Markets

Analysis of stock, bond, option and commodity markets and the federal tax treatment of gains and losses. Students learn relationships between different markets, between risks and rates of return, and between level of interest rates and level of asset prices. Prerequisites: ECO 111 and 352. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Distinguish among the various financial securities and the financial markets in which they are traded.
  2. Distinguish and apply various market transactions and types of trading orders.
  3. Distinguish, calculate and apply various rates of return.
  4. Identify key sources of risk and the effects of return.
  5. Distinguish among the various tax-advantaged investments.
