SPE 520 - Teaching in Inclusive Classrooms

Provides knowledge of special education to general education teacher candidates who are seeking to teach students with disabilities effectively in our classrooms and schools. A 15-hour field experience is required that is embedded in the associated methods course. Corequisite: AED 541 or AED 602 or AED 643 or EDU 688. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Articulate key provisions of laws related to special education, inclusive education, and the civil rights of individuals with disabilities.
  2. Analyze resources and media from various perspectives on disability.
  3. Apply the principles of Universal Design for Learning, evidence-based strategies, and their knowledge of students with disabilities to the planning and implementation of instruction in secondary education classrooms.
