FSA 651 - Understanding and Conducting Educational Research

An initial course in the reading, analysis and design of research in education and special education, FSA 651 is intended to provide graduate students with basic understanding of text, information and methodology to be applied throughout the master's program. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code A = offered every semester

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Articulate the characteristics of, and the differences between, quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  2. Analyze and critique peer-reviewed educational research articles.
  3. Apply the principles of action research (including a proposal, data collection, analysis and interpretation) to an individual project.
  4. Describe the purpose and procedures of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for the protection of human subjects in education research.
