LIT 549 - Literacy in the Secondary School

Methods, materials, learning theories and assessment for fostering literacy at the middle and secondary levels. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the use of a wide range of developmentally-appropriate instructional practices, approaches and methods to promote literacy within their content area. 
  2. Demonstrate the ability to identify aspects of classroom and school environments that accommodate the developmental, cultural, and linguistic differences of students.
  3. Design and implement discipline-specific instructional plans that support students' literacy development and attend to their diverse needs as learners.
  4. Analyze learning theories through written response related to fostering literacy in the content area.
