HIS 530 - Issues in African-American History Major historical arguments and historiographical issues in African American history from African origins to the present: origins and nature of slavery, rise of Jim Crow South, urban ghetto formation, civil rights movement. Special attention to teaching materials and methods. Prerequisites: Twelve hours of undergraduate or graduate work in American history, or permission of instructor. (3 cr. hr.) Frequency code C = offered at least once every two years
Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Explain the historical significance of key themes, events, and people relevant to African-American history.
- Assess the persuasiveness of historians' claims about the past.
- Identify the implications of historiographical innovations and debates for narratives about African-American history.
