ATS 103 - Painting I Introduction to oil painting. A survey of basic concepts and methods, including observation, invention, color, shape, composition, paint application and development of content. Painted work, group critiques, written preparatory assignments. Fulfills: GE 8; LASR. Notes: The State University of New York College at Cortland reserves the right to select and retain indefinitely any student artwork done in connection with course work completed at the university.(3 cr. hr.) Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Define formal elements of painting language — shape, color and composition.
- Demonstrate techniques for the conventional application of oil paint.
- Implement methods for generating basic concepts and content to create an art piece.
