SOC 292 - Introduction to Sociological Theory A broad introduction to social and sociological theory. Examines themes of classical theory, as well as major works of contemporary theory. Prerequisite: SOC 100, SOC 150 or ANT 102. Fulfills LASR (3 cr. hr.) Frequency code A = offered every semester
Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe major characteristics of premodern society, modern society, and postmodern society, and articulate the implications for social solidarity, individualism, and industrialization of each era.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the major classical and contemporary theories of sociology and the assumptions and implications of each.
- Apply classical and contemporary sociological theories to a range of social problems.
