PED 383 - High School Weight Room Pedagogy

Orientation to basic free weight and various functional exercises, along with proper spotting techniques in the high school setting. Focus will be on enhancing skills and knowledge needed for students to feel confident teaching, demonstrating, spotting, assessing and modifying exercises in a high school weight room setting. Prerequisite: PED 282. (1 cr. hr.)
Frequency code B = offered at least once per year

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify developmentally appropriate exercises to work each of the major muscle groups for high school students. 
  2. Perform and assess proper technique for basic exercises in the weight room. 
  3. Identify proper spotting techniques and modifications for exercises in the weight room.
