CHE 303 - Organic Chemistry I Laboratory

Introduction to organic chemistry laboratory techniques with an emphasis on purification and identification of organic compounds. Prerequisite: CHE 278; Pre/Corequisite: CHE 300. (1 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Separate and purify organic molecules from mixtures using common organic techniques such as distillation, recrystallization, aqueous extraction, and chromatography.
  2. ​Assess the purity of an organic compound experimentally.
  3. Handle laboratory glassware and chemicals in a safe and responsible manner.
