BIO 113 - Principles of Biology II Laboratory

Laboratory and field examination of the anatomy, physiology and ecology of plants and animals. Must be taken concurrently with BIO 111: Principles of Biology II. Completion of BIO 111 and 113 satisfies the GE 2 Natural Sciences requirement. Not open to students with credit for BIO 201 and 202 or to students majoring in biological sciences. Prerequisite/corequisite: BIO 113 must be taken concurrently with BIO 111 with the exception of failing BIO 113. In this case, students will be allowed to retake BIO 113 in a later semester. Lecture/Lab Hours: One two-hour laboratory. Fulfills: GE 2. (1 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Apply the scientific method including observation, hypothesis development, measurement, data collection, experimentation, evaluation of evidence, and employment of mathematical analysis.
  2. Describe evidence gathered using the scientific method related to a current event in the biological sciences.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to dissect an animal in order to develop knowledge of basic biological systems such as the digestive, reproductive, nervous, and immune systems.
  4. Describe biological processes through observations made on field trips.
