CRM 395 - The Politics of Crime Control The roles of interest groups and social movements in the formulation of criminal justice policy in the United States. Case studies will include sentencing reform, decriminalization campaigns, drug control policy, the death penalty, victims' rights and police misconduct. Prerequisite: SOC 150, SOC 100 or ANT 102. Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Explain how collective political action operates and the conditions under which it will have an impact.
- Articulate the inherently political nature of social policy in general, and crime control policy in particular.
- Describe and analyze significant changes in criminal justice policies over the past quarter century.
