PSY 301 - Research Methods for Psychology

Introduction to concepts underlying scientific methods in psychology. Topics include theory, hypothesis testing, reliability, validity, measurement, statistical decision making, experimental and non-experimental designs and ethics in human and animal research. Prerequisite: PSY 101 and PSY 201 and a grade of C- in MAT 201 or PSY 201. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe the use of the scientific method in psychological research.
  2. Identify the ethical standards, in psychological research.
  3. Identify the differences between experimental and non-experimental research methods and the strengths and weaknesses of each.
  4. Define the key concepts in research design/method.
  5. Evaluate the appropriateness of conclusions drawn from psychological research.
