PSY 201 - Statistical Methods

Basic concepts of probability, descriptive and inferential statistics including central tendency, variability, correlation; analysis of variance and parametric tests. Mathematics majors may take course only as free elective. Also listed as MAT 201, COM 230, ECO 221. Fulfills GE 1; LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Interpret and draw inferences from mathematical models such as formulas, graphs, tables, and schematics in psychological problems.
  2. Represent mathematical information symbolically, visually, numerically and verbally in psychological problems.
  3. Employ statistical methods to solve problems in psychology.
  4. Estimate and check mathematical results for reasonableness in psychology.
  5. Demonstrate an understanding of the limits of mathematical and statistical methods in psychology.
