LIT 371 - Teaching Elementary School Reading and Language Arts I

Part I of integrated approach to teaching reading, writing, speaking and listening in elementary school. Prerequisite: PSY 231. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Analyze and plan for the use of literacy instructional practices of children birth through the primary grades that are culturally-responsive and differentiated, utilizing background knowledge about child development to guide their decision-making. 
  2. Apply a variety of teaching strategies and authentic forms of assessment to develop a positive and data-driven teaching-learning environment that is developmentally appropriate for children birth through the primary grades. 
  3. Identify and utilize research-based literacy instructional practices, resources, and tools that are developmentally appropriate for children birth through the primary grades.
