FSA 400 - Foundations of Education: The School in American Society

Investigation of foundations of the American educational system. Readings and discussion designed to enable students to reason, speak and write about purposes and practices of American education. Prerequisite: FSA 340. Open to juniors and seniors. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Articulate a critical understanding of the context, structure and function of schools and schooling in contemporary U.S. society.
  2. Analyze complex problems of schools and their potential solutions by incorporating philosophical, social, political and historical perspectives.
  3. Draw conclusions about the role of teacher agency in shaping effective curricular and pedagogical practice in a broader educational context.
