EXS 465 - Advanced Exercise Physiology

Physiological adaptations, mechanisms of change of functions taking place as a result of physical exercise. Physiological factors influencing human performance; environmental factors of altitude, space, temperature extremes; drugs and doping; age and gender; related problems in sport medicine. Open to juniors and seniors. Prerequisite: EXS 397. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Explain physiological adaptations and mechanisms of change related to body functions taking place as a result of physical exercise.
  2. Identify physiological factors influencing human performance; environmental factors of altitude, space, temperature extremes; drugs and doping; age and gender; related problems in sport medicine.
  3. Describe the physiological responses to chronic exercise including: systemic and cellular adaptations to long-term aerobic exercise, anaerobic exercise, and strength training.
  4. Appraise the principles of effective physical conditioning techniques in the apparently healthy individual.
