EXS 455 - Philosophy, Principles and the Administration of Sport

The principles of a sports organization including its policies, use of strategic processes, structures and methods of operations. Key applications of administrative skills regarding staff duties, use of facilities, instructional equipment and supplies will be considered. Practical issues related to coaching will be discussed. Prerequisite: EXS 230. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Develop proficiency in the legal and ethical issues surrounding the coaching and administration of sport organizations.
  2. Identify and analyze advanced ethical arguments that pertain to coaching.
  3. Explain how to make sound ethical decisions.
  4. Describe ethical dilemmas coaches have found themselves in and the consequences of the decisions they made.
  5. Demonstrate the ability to research a topic, develop an argument and organize supporting details.
