EXS 438 - Cardio-Respiratory Fitness Assessment and Programming

Integration of cardiorespiratory physiological concepts into the assessment of an individual's aerobic capacity and the application of these data in designing an effective aerobic exercise program. American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) guidelines will be followed. Lectures and laboratory. Prerequisite: EXS 397 or PED 397. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Recall heart anatomy, exercise physiology and exercise biochemistry.
  2. Demonstrate safe and effective cardiorespiratory assessment for healthy individuals.
  3. Create safe and effective exercise programming for healthy individuals.
  4. Differentiate cardiovascular adaptations due to aerobic exercise training and sedentary individuals.
  5. Appraise cardiovascular risk factor assessment of different individuals.
