EXS 350 - Aesthetics of Sport

Visual survey of art and architecture encompassing motifs of athletics, sports, games, contest, dance, exercise, play, recreation. Aesthetic pleasure, interest in this professional cultural dimension emphasized. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe the nature of aesthetics in ancient Greek sport.
  2. Cite several artists and the sports they have depicted in their artwork.
  3. Analyze the aesthetic qualities of sport as displayed in art, such as paintings and sculpture, and athletic venues, such as stadiums and arenas.
  4. Compare and contrast aesthetically pleasing skills in several sports and physical activities.
  5. Describe how aesthetics are used in trailers and sport films to draw the attention of viewers.
