ANT 350 - Language in Society and Culture

Cross-cultural studies in interrelationships between language and the individual, the society and the culture. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code C = offered at least once every two years

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Examine the interrelationships between language and culture and the ways in which patterns of language use relate to community, ethnicity, gender, age, caste and class.
  2. Describe how language affects speakers' worldview and vice-versa.
  3. Summarize issues of linguistic relativism.
  4. Apply sociocultural specific pedagogical and methodological approaches to language study.
