HIS 465 - The Soviet Union, 1917-1953 Critical inquiry into the development of the Russian Revolution under the Stalinist regime. Focus will be on historiographical debates on the building of the socialist economy, the emergence and articulation of Stalinist ideology, the function and lasting significance of the Terror and the Gulag, the workings of Stalinist society from the people's perspective, and the meaning of the Revolution in artistic life. Prerequisite: HIS 100, 101, 110 or 111. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)
