Description

English study involves an exploration of human values and the nature of their literary expression, and of the use of the language and the cultural background that shapes it. Courses in English are intended to help students read with understanding and enjoyment and write with skill and grace.

English Honors Program: Students having a grade point average of at least 3.1 in English studies may be invited to pursue an honors program designed to stimulate independent work of a high critical and imaginative order. The program involves the “challenging for honors” in two advanced courses and the writing of a senior thesis. Students may take any English class for honors credit, with approval of the instructor of the course. Sigma Tau Delta is the national English honors society. A local chapter is housed in the English Department.
